Egyptian writer and a leading pioneer of Arabic theatre, born in Alexandria in 1898 and died in Cairo in 1987. His plays include The People of the Cave (1933) and Shahrazad (1934), and his novels include Return of the Spirit (1933) and Diary of a Country Prosecutor (1937).
