Why every volume of the Nights is rated 18+
How we handle the adult parts of the Nights: what is shown, what is covered, how the rating works on the site, and why it is not lower.

In short
- The original text has violence, desire and bodies, and a faithful adaptation cannot pretend otherwise.
- All 13 published volumes are rated 18+. Pictures never show anything explicit, but the Arabic text is not softened.
- The rating is data on every book, and the site uses it in the library filter, the book page and search markup.
A book for adults
The Nights are not a children's book. The text describes violence, desire and bodies, and an honest adaptation shows that it is there. We would rather rate it plainly than hide it.
What we show and what we cover
We draw the story, not the act. Where the text describes a bath, a bed or a punishment, the picture shows people from behind, in steam, under cloth or in shadow, and never anything explicit. A vision model scans every picture for nudity, and a person looks at the flagged pages before a volume goes up. We never draw anything of a child, and we redraw any picture that could be read that way.
What we do not soften
The Arabic text is set beside the pictures exactly as the translator wrote it. So the rating describes the words as well as the art, and covering a scene in a picture does not make it suitable for a younger reader.
How the rating works on the site
Each book carries an age rating on a scale from All to 18, with short content notes in both languages. The library can filter by age, and books above the chosen age are left out. Readers of 18+ books are asked for their date of birth before a download, and the rating is also published in the page's search markup so other tools can read it.
Why not lower
When in doubt we choose the higher rating. A rating is a promise to parents and teachers, and it is cheaper to lower one later than to explain a wrong one.

Try it yourself
- Rate the book by its text, not only by its pictures.
- Store the rating as data so every page can use it.
- Scan every picture, then put a person on the flagged ones.
- Choose the higher rating when unsure.
