The Purple Pileus

H. G. Wells

A man worn down by an unhappy marriage flees to a pine wood, finds a strange purple mushroom and tastes it in a moment of despair, thinking it a poison. What follows changes the course of his day and his life.

Age rating: Ages 12 and up. Content notes: A bitter comedy with a moment of despair and a marital quarrel; nothing graphic.
